It is my experience that most of my buildings are placed on a crushed gravel foundation. Crushed gravel is inexpensive, easy for home owners to apply and provides excellent drainage for your building. In my experience ¾” crushed rock works best for shed bases.

Warning – there are several shed web sites giving extremely damaging information on site preparation for sheds. Most building departments today require positive flow of water away from new detached structures (sheds). This entails a raised site and a minimum two percent slope away from the base of the new structure

Raising the building for animal control doesn't make sense. That gives the animals room to easily get under it? My experience has been that animals tend to nest and/or do damage when they have a nice cozy place to settle down (under a shed)
